What Are The Disadvantages Of Zinc Alloy

Although zinc alloys have some advantages (such as good casting performance, processability, etc.), there are also some obvious disadvantages. When choosing to use this kind of alloy, it is necessary to consider its advantages and disadvantages as well as the needs of the specific application environment.

1. Poor corrosion resistance:

Zinc alloys are susceptible to corrosion in humid environments, especially without proper protection. This corrosion may lead to spots, rust or peeling on the surface of the alloy, affecting its appearance and service life.

2. Limited mechanical properties:

Mechanical properties (such as strength, hardness, and toughness) of zinc alloys may be lower compared to other metal alloys, such as aluminum alloys or stainless steel. This limits the use of zinc alloys in certain applications that require high strength or hardness.

3. Low melting point:

This can lead to problems when used in high temperature environments. For example, in high-temperature operating environments, zinc alloy components may deform or fail due to overheating.

4. Susceptible to stress corrosion cracking:

Stress corrosion cracking is prone to occur when subjected to stress, especially in corrosive environments. Such cracking can reduce the mechanical properties and structural integrity of the alloy, potentially leading to premature component failure.

5. Casting defects:

Shrinkage, porosity, inclusion and other defects may occur in the casting process. These defects can reduce the mechanical properties and aesthetics of the alloy and may lead to problems during the use of the part.

6. Cost consideration:

Although such alloys are cost-effective in some respects, in some applications they may cost more than other, more durable materials. In addition, because of its poor corrosion resistance, additional coatings or surface treatments may be required to increase its corrosion resistance, thus increasing the overall cost.

Application Field | Zinc Alloy Metal

Automotive industry: Manufactures automotive components such as engine covers, doors, bumpers, etc., which are able to meet the stringent requirements for automotive components due to their high strength and corrosion resistance.

Construction industry: In the construction field, this type of alloy can be used to make doors and Windows, roofs, railings, etc. Due to its good weather resistance and aesthetics, it is suitable for various building environments.

Electronic industry: Zinc alloy is also widely used in the electronic industry, such as mobile phone shell, laptop shell, etc., because of its light and good processing performance.

Furniture industry: make decorative and functional parts of furniture, such as handles, hinges, etc., to improve the quality and beauty of furniture.

Other fields: because of its good molding performance and processability, it can make toys, artworks, tableware and so on.
