Application Of Titanium Alloys

Titanium alloys are based on titanium and other elements of the alloy. Titanium has two homogeneous crystals: below 882℃, a dense hexagonal structure of α titanium, above 882℃, a body-centered cubic β titanium. It is a kind of material with excellent properties such as high strength, low density, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, so it is widely used in many fields.

1.Aerospace: Ithas an irreplaceable position in the aerospace field. Due to its high strength and low density characteristics, it is often used in the manufacture of engine blades, body structure parts, landing gear and other key components of aircraft. These parts need to withstand huge mechanical stress and high temperature environment, and titanium alloy just meets these requirements.

In spacecraft, the alloy is also used to make parts such as nozzles and fuel storage tanks for rocket engines, as well as shell and structural parts for the space shuttle.

2.Medical field: Due to its good biocompatibility and corrosion resistance, it is often used to manufacture human implants, such as artificial joints, dental implants, etc. These implants, which require prolonged contact with human tissue without rejection, are one of the ideal materials.

3.Automobile field: in automobile manufacturing, this alloy is also gradually adopted. Due to its lightweight and high strength characteristics, it can effectively reduce the weight of the vehicle, thus improving fuel efficiency and performance. It makes engine parts, suspension systems, wheels and other key components of cars.

4.Chemical industry: In the chemical industry, it is widely used to manufacture chemical equipment and pipelines due to its excellent corrosion resistance. These equipment and pipes need to withstand the erosion of various corrosive media, and titanium based alloys can provide good protection.

5.Sports equipment: Due to its lightweight and high strength characteristics, it can improve the performance and service life of sports equipment. For example, it is often used in the manufacture of golf clubs, tennis rackets, bicycle racks and other sports equipment.

Production Process Of Titanium Alloys

Raw material preparation: Prepare high purity sponge titanium or titanium alloy intermediate alloy as base material.

Smelting: Smelting under protective atmosphere or vacuum conditions. The atmosphere and temperature should be strictly controlled in the smelting process to avoid impurities and gas content in the titanium alloy exceeding the standard.

Ingot preparation: the molten liquid titanium alloy is made into ingot by casting process. The shape and size of the ingot shall be determined according to the requirements of subsequent processing and application.

Plastic processing: The ingot is processed by forging, rolling, extrusion and other plastic processing methods to form the required shape and specification of titanium alloy materials. In order to ensure the microstructure and properties of titanium alloys, the deformation and temperature should be strictly controlled during machining.

Heat treatment: According to the specific brand and performance requirements of this product, appropriate heat treatment, such as annealing, solution treatment, aging treatment, etc. Heat treatment can optimize the microstructure and macroscopic properties of the alloy, and improve its strength and toughness.

Surface treatment: Surface treatment of materials, such as pickling, polishing, etc. These treatments can remove the oxide layer and impurities on the surface of the alloy and improve its surface quality and corrosion resistance.

Quality inspection: Chemical composition analysis, mechanical property test and microstructure observation of the prepared materials are carried out to ensure that they meet the standard requirements.
