Product Introduction

AH36’s high strength-to-weight ratio is a direct enabler of lightweight hull design. A lighter vessel requires less propulsive power, leading to significantly reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions over the vessel’s lifetime.

Manufacturing Process & Quality Assurance

Raw Material & Steelmaking

The process begins with select iron ore and scrap metal, melted in advanced furnaces. Through precise secondary refining, the chemical composition—including carbon, manganese, silicon, and micro-alloying elements—is carefully adjusted to lay the precise foundation for AH36's required strength and toughness.

Hot Rolling & Forming

The continuously cast steel slab is reheated and passed through a series of rolling mills. Under high temperature, it is progressively rolled to the specified thickness. This hot-rolling process not only shapes the plate but also refines the internal grain structure of the steel, initiating the development of its mechanical properties.

Normalizing Heat Treatment (Critical Stage)

For AH36 plates, the Normalizing heat treatment is a pivotal stage. The rolled plate is reheated to approximately 900°C, held until uniformly heated, and then allowed to cool in still air.
Grain Refinement: Eliminates internal stresses and uneven microstructure from hot rolling, resulting in a fine and uniform grain structure.
Property Optimization: Significantly enhances the overall mechanical properties, particularly low-temperature impact toughness. This ensures resistance to brittle fracture in harsh environments like frigid waters, while maintaining good strength and weldability.

Finishing, Inspection & Certification

Finally, the plate undergoes precision leveling, cutting, and surface inspection. Every batch is subjected to rigorous destructive and non-destructive testing to verify compliance with the specified standards.

01
What is AH36 steel plate mainly used for?
AH36 is a high-tensile structural steel plate specifically designed for critical, high-stress areas in shipbuilding and offshore structures. Its primary applications include the strength deck, side shells, bottom plating, and large bulkheads of large commercial vessels like bulk carriers, container ships, and oil tankers, where superior strength and impact toughness are mandatory.
02
What is the main difference between AH32 and AH36?
The core difference lies in the minimum yield strength. AH32 has a yield strength of 315 MPa, while AH36 offers a higher 355 MPa. This makes AH36 approximately 13% stronger, allowing for weight reduction in structures or enhanced safety margins in the most demanding applications. AH36 is typically specified for larger vessels or more critical structural members.
03
Can you cut the plates to our specific size and shape?
Absolutely. We provide precision cutting services (flame, plasma, or saw cutting) according to your provided drawings or nesting layouts.
04
What information do I need to provide for an accurate quotation?
To get a prompt and precise quote, please provide:
1) Dimensions (Thickness, Width, Length, Quantity)
2) Certification Requirement (e.g., ABS, LR)
3) Processing Needs (e.g., cutting, edge bevelling)
4) Destination Port
This allows us to offer the most competitive price and clear delivery schedule.
