Production Process

Steelmaking & Continuous Casting

The process begins with precise control of the raw material melt in advanced furnaces. Secondary refining in a Ladle Furnace (LF) ensures strict chemical composition control and high purity. The molten steel is then cast into slabs of required dimensions using continuous casting machines.

Reheating & Controlled Rolling

Slabs are uniformly reheated to optimal rolling temperatures in a walking-beam furnace. They subsequently undergo thermo-mechanical controlled rolling (TMCP) on a precision plate mill. This stage is critical for achieving a fine-grained microstructure, which lays the foundation for the plate's strength and toughness.

Heat Treatment (Normalizing)

To optimize the mechanical properties for service, our SA516 Gr70 Pressure Vessel Plate is normalized. This heat treatment involves heating the plate above its transformation temperature and then cooling it in air, which refines the grain structure and ensures a uniform, balanced combination of strength, ductility, and notch toughness essential for pressure vessel integrity.

Testing & Certification

Every single plate undergoes 100% automated ultrasonic testing (UT) to internalize quality standards. Coupons are taken from each batch for destructive testing, including tensile, impact (Charpy V-Notch), and bend tests. Only after passing all stringent tests is the official Mill Test Certificate (MTC) issued, guaranteeing the material's compliance with the ordered specification.
