Key Features

High Strength for Lightweight Design

With a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa, DH36 enables the design of robust hull structures with reduced plate thickness. This directly contributes to significant weight savings and improved fuel efficiency for vessels.

Guaranteed Low-Temperature Toughness

Certified to withstand impact forces at temperatures as low as -20°C, it ensures structural integrity and safety in the harsh conditions of Arctic routes and cold ocean waters, preventing brittle fracture.

Excellent Weldability & Fabrication

The balanced chemical composition minimizes pre-heating requirements and reduces the risk of welding defects. It allows for efficient, high-quality joining using common shipyard welding techniques, ensuring construction reliability.

Superior Structural Integrity & Fatigue Resistance

The fine-grained microstructure and controlled rolling process deliver uniform mechanical properties throughout the plate. This enhances resistance to dynamic loads and fatigue, critical for long service life in demanding sea states.

AH36 vs. DH36

Choose AH36 for projects where the operating environment will not expose the structure to temperatures near or below 0°C. It offers the same strength at a potentially lower cost.
Choose DH36 when vessel classification rules, design specifications, or the expected operating climate (e.g., North Atlantic, Arctic routes) demand verified toughness at sub-zero temperatures.

Typical Use Cases
AH36 is commonly used for interior hull structures (such as inner bulkheads or decks) and in vessels operating primarily in temperate or tropical waters.
DH36 is specified for exposed hull plating and critical structural members on vessels navigating cold regions, such as the North Atlantic or Arctic routes, where lower service temperatures are anticipated.
